Sir Veza’s Announces The World Championship of Sonoran Hot Dog Eating
Contest!
Copa de Hot Dog LIVE on Friday, September 16th, 2011
Sir Veza’s Taco Garage is organizing and will be the home of the first ever
World Championship of Sonoran Hot Dog Eating Contests, titled “Copa de Hot Dog”
to take place live at Sir Veza’s located at 4699 E. Speedway Blvd. on Friday,
September 16th 2011.
Jason Blackburn, managing partner of Sir Veza’s says he is excited to help organize a local event that has the potential to put Tucson on the map with the many great American food eating contests, such as the famed 4th of July hot dog eating contest sponsored by Nathan’s that has drawn global fame. Blackburn makes special note of the fact that their “Copa de Hot Dog” will take place on Friday September 16th which is also the same day as Mexico’s Independence Day, a day he notes that is often mistakenly confused with Cinco de Mayo.
Copa de Hot Dog is a Sir Veza’s trademarked event that will continue to develop and grow just as that famous 4th of July event has done out on the east coast and Blackburn hopes that the event in Tucson will soon draw similar crowds and media attention from around the globe.
The Sonoran Hot Dog may be the most infamous food item to come out of Tucson since the days of the Chimichanga and with so much attention on this bacon wrapped street delicacy, Sir Veza’s hopes to capitalize on combining the item with America’s fascination in competitive eating.
Blackburn also points out that there will be significant enough prize monies offered to winners to start out ($500 to each first place), making it worth the while of the contestants and that there will be both a male and female contest to allow for both sexes to have equal opportunities of success and expanded waist lines. Plans are currently underway for a website dedicated to the event and registration forms and contest rules are now available to pick up at Sir Veza’s on Speedway. IT IS FREE TO ENTER THE CONTEST AND A DRAWING FOR QUALIFIED CONTESTANTS WILL BE HELD AT SIR VEZA’S ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH AT 7PM. IF NOT PRESENT, CHOSEN PARTICIPANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY TELEPHONE ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH The time of the actual contest is approx. 6pm on Friday, September 16th at Sir Veza’s Speedway & Swan location and will feature fun twists to the traditional contest style that is sure to please fans and contestants alike.
